What Women Think Of Men’s Shoes

by on mar.21, 2011, under japan

When it comes to expressing your personal style, shoes might not be the first thing you think about. But it is the first thing women notice when they see you. Back in the days, I dated a girl who used to say, all in the shoes Her theory was that she could pretty much tell anything about a guy based on the shoes he wore. A guy could be handsome and charming, but if he was wearing a pair of crocs she would run for the hills. Knowing women can be as shallow as anyone else is a hard thing to face, but quite often it is true, and the shoes men wear can turn a woman off (or on) in a matter of seconds.

You might be working out every day in the gym, eating right, dropping $100 for the perfect hairstyle, and have an impeccable wardrobe. But none of it matters if you forgot to pay attention to one important thing: your shoes. We know that you love your favorite pair of kicks or boots, but we also know you like to make a positive first impression as well. With that in mind we got women to reveal what they think about you based on your choice of footwear.

Whether you are into hip hop music or you like hunting and fishing with the boys, Timberlands are always going to be a relatively safe choice when it comes to footwear. Most women agree.

guy who wears Timberlands cares about his appearance from head to toe and intentionally puts an outfit together, he also probably cares about other stuff too, like what he eats, where he vacations, and what car he drives. A pair of Timberland Wodehouse chukkas says he not dining at Applebees, going to Vegas for vacation, and driving around in a brand new red corvette,” says Kami Gray, stylist.

Most women don dig guys who wear flip flops all that much. But with that said, most women also understand why guys wear them. Comfort is important after all. However, the one thing that women don understand ever is if you wear socks with them.

guy who wears flip flops is a cool and relaxed dude. I grew up by the beach in San Diego, so flip flops are part of your everyday uniform. It would be weird if you never wore flip flops in California like, you definitely have something to hide. There are a few no nos when it comes to flip flops, though. No wearing socks with your flip flops, EVER. And finally, a big pet peeve is when guys try to do the whole formal and wearing flip flops thing with a suit NOT OK,” says Alejandra Boggiano, swimwear designer.

While most guys don wear shoes of this nature, there is no doubt rocking a pair of $600 Ferragamos says something to a woman about your confidence. But be careful not to go too far.

who wear designer shoes, like Gucci and Prada, care about their appearance, and are very aware what they wear sends a message to the world. When worn right, [designer shoes] are a subtle, sophisticated, and confident statement. When they worn wrong think logos everywhere paired with every other piece of designer clothing the guy owns all at one time it makes the guy look like he trying WAY too hard, and [like] a bit of a douchebag,” says Colleen Bayus, stylist.

Fluevog shoes and other brands frequently worn by the modern day hipsters are pretty cool. But beware of what they may be saying to women about your personality.

Matchmaker Emily Lyons isn a big fan. is a guy who is somewhat aware of trends, probably owns several pair of skinny jeans and is a level five vegan. It probably takes him longer to comb his beard than to comb his hair. He actually wears pretty nice clothes, but doesn have a real job.Swimwear Monokini & One Piece
Everyday he suits up, throws on some Fluevogs, and then heads to the local free trade coffee shop where he spends the next three hours reviewing posts for work,” she says. Ouch!

You may like your New Balance sneakers and hey, that is fine with us. But just so you know, a lot of women don agree.

One of them is lifestyle blogger Kimberly Kong. If you set on wearing the brand, take my advice and go bold. Colorful versions will elevate your style tenfold think BAMF, not basic.

For a while, wearing boat shoes was something your dad did. But thanks to brands like Sperry, this type of shoe has made a comeback.

Fashion stylist Fortune Dushey is all for them. classic, cool, understated and have this all American vibe to them. I am personally striped obsessed, so boat shoes are an extension of my love for all things nautical. Men who wear Sperrys can be fashionable without trying too hard. As long as you not wearing them with a pastel button down, khakis and a blazer, I seriously dig them!

Pretty much every guy owns a pair of Nike or Adidas sneakers, whether it be for the gym or just hanging out and walking around. But that doesn mean these shoes go unnoticed.

general, I love a classic, vintage looking sneaker like the Nike Air Jordan, Mid Blazer or Vortex. The old school Air Jordan is really a cool shoe because you can customize it to your liking on Nike iD. It fun to be able to rock your own color combo and make [your shoes] your own, but still stay within the classic and retro styling. The shape of these retro styles all look great with skinny jeans, which are so popular and stylish for men right now,” says Leesa Evans, costume designer and celebrity stylist.
